C'mere and Give Me Some Sugar

Y'all are sweet as pie. C'mere and give me some sugar. These are a few things my sweet grandmomma says all the time. My grandmother can bless your heart in the most sincere way. Completely different than the way folks are saying it nowadays. The minute you tell her something unfortunate, she's blessing your heart. Like a little songbird, she's going around making a melody with her southern sayings. When we were little she'd start singing "A Bushel and a Peck" or "Hush, Little Baby" as soon as she could convince us it was bedtime.

Sweet as Pie - Odd Daughter Paper Co.

I intended to write about cards, but these sayings are bringing up memories of visits to my grandparents house. It makes me want to whip up some creamed corn and butter beans. Or just make a giant glass of sweet tea. As for the cards, my granddaddy will be receiving the card with the jam jar on his next birthday. He's been putting up peaches and pears for as far back as we can remember.

Belle and Union

Belle and Union is one of my favorite stationary companies. I featured them here last year, but they're still cranking out amazing pieces. The folks behind Belle and Union have a story that will make you want to grab your valentine. He's a soldier, and she's an artist. He's a yankee boy, and she's a Southern Belle. Together they make gorgeous cards in Texas.

The South Print - HardInk Calligraphy

I love this print by HardInk Calligraphy. I'm really starting to think I should make a gallery wall with my favorite southern prints. These pieces are way too pretty to send off and never see again. It'd make for an inspiring office wall, and day-dreaming of my sweet grandparents would be pretty awesome too.

Easy as Pie?

My mom gave me a rolling pin for a wedding present. The last time I made a pie crust? Never. I make my Grandma's pecan pie every year at Thanksgiving and Christmas. But sadly, I always buy the crust. I'm really more of a cake baker, but it's time for a change. With the ingredients below, at least I'll look the part. I think my favorite item is the bake by number pie dish... Or is it the sweet apron. Do you make your own pie crusts? Have you ever had pie in a mason jar?

Just Peachy

Peaches* are a sweet summer snack. Lately I have been putting sliced peaches in my Greek yogurt in the morning and adding a little granola. It's a great way to start the day! There are some beautiful recipes below but I still think one of my favorite ways to eat them is just sliced and plain. I need to try the recipe for cobbler to see if it comes close to my Grandma's cobbler. Leave it to Martha Stewart's team to create one of the prettiest cobblers I have ever seen.
What is your favorite summer fruit? Do you cook with peaches throughout the summer?

I am really loving all of this stationery. I'm not sure I could pick my favorite. They are all so cute!

*Disclaimer: This blog is not entirely about food. I just really love food from the south.

Friday Flowers

Irises are sentimental because they were my maternal grandmother's favorite flower. Every time I see some I want to buy them. The irises are so delicate and open up perfectly. Don't the flowers remind you of the Brit's with their fascinators?

This morning I put them in a little julep cup that was given to us for our wedding. Did you know that toothpaste helps to polish silver? I did it this morning and it worked wonders. Do you have any secret cleaning tricks?

Friday Flowers

My aunts and grandmother gathered aqua mason jars from antique shops for over a year for my wedding. They found these gems in little places from South Georgia to the North Carolina mountains. We ended up using them for my rehearsal dinner and I wouldn't have it any other way. My sister and I went to the farmers market and bought $30 worth of flowers and put them together. We added mint in the arrangement for some greenery and it smelled amazing. As much as I love mint, I never thought to put it in a flower arrangement. We had 10 arrangements of different sizes and it was so affordable.

Last night I got a couple zinnias from Thackeray Farms. With so many left over mason jars I decided to recreate the arrangement. I am afraid to prune my mint back too much, otherwise I would have added some. These simple little flowers will add a ray of sunshine to the weekend. What is your favorite flower?

Farm Fresh Cobbler

Tonight I baked cobbler using my grandmother's recipe. The blueberries are from Sweet Blue's Berry Farm in Hollywood mixed with blueberry goat cheese from Burden Creek Dairy farm on John's Island.

batter:
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 stick of butter

blueberry mixture:
2 cups of blueberries
2 tablespoons of goat cheese

Heat blueberries on the stove until they are tender and mix in goat cheese. Pour the blueberry mix into a baking dish. Add the batter on top of the blueberries. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes. The batter will rise to the top and become golden brown. Sprinkle sugar on top and broil on low until the sugar crystalizes.

Enjoy with ice cream or milk!
