Goodbye 2011

I love this sweet video! We knew they were actors, but who knew they were musicians? This New Years Eve I am planning on staying in. Hoping for a very quiet night sipping Champagne. Do you have big plans tonight?

My New Years resolution is to blog more! I like to make goals that are attainable and fun. I can't think of a better thing to strive for in 2012. Do you have a New Years resolution?

Southern Cheese Please

I saw these on etsy a few weeks and meant to show them to you. How cute, right? They are made for every state and you can have the heart moved where you want... I would have the heart pushed down all the way to the bottom (i.e. Bluffton)

Southern cheeses, pecans, figs and peach preserves belong on this board. I recently tried Sweet Grass Dairy's Green Hill cheese out of Thomasville, Georgia and it is delicious. I love Burden Creek Dairy's Blueberry Goat Cheese. It is out of John's Island, South Carolina and you can find it at the Charleston Farmers Market.

What is your favorite southern cheese? Do you know of cheese knives that would go well with this board?

Friday Flowers

I saw these little pretties on King Street yesterday. Bright pansies remind me of springtime and so did this week's weather. It was 77 degrees yesterday! Thanksgiving is next week, right? I walked into Starbucks wearing a scarf and tights and other customers were wearing shorts and seersucker. Ah Charleston, your November weather has been so lovely.

Jack Leigh

Jack Leigh is one of my all time favorite photographers. His body of work captures the coastal waters of South Carolina and Georgia better than any photographer I have seen. Pat Conroy's words are a perfect match for his photographs.

Leigh has so many great books, it's hard to choose a favorite. If I had to narrow it down I would pick Oystering: A Way of Life, Nets and Doors: Shrimping in Southern Waters, and his retrospective, The Land I'm Bound To.

I am lucky enough to own this piece and look at it everyday!
Several years ago M bought a couple prints for me and I could not be more grateful.

This photo reminds me of the my hometown and the oystermen who help maintain our waters.

His books are full of glorious images but his most notable piece is on the cover of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. If you haven't been to Bonaventure Cemetery you should definitely make the trip. The cemetery is in Savannah on the Wilmington River and is incredibly peaceful. The great songwriter Johnny Mercer was laid to rest here.

Jack Leigh passed away in 2004 after a battle with colon cancer. He left the world a better place as he documented the South in a way that will preserve our salt marshes and barrier islands long after they're gone.

Found 'em

Look who I saw hanging around on ebay. Remember these guys from my rainy days footwear post. For $30 these coral duck boots became mine. Thanks for voting on the last post but these were just too good of a deal. There's more where these came from in yellow, cream or dark green. This misty morning is begging for me to go four wheelin' or firewood hunting. Maybe an oyster roast later?

Dizzy Apple Cider

I drank a lot of apple cider this weekend and I'm staring to wonder why I didn't add bourbon. I found this recipe for a crisp apple cider cocktail. Two parts fresh apple cider, two parts ginger ale and one part bourbon. Yum!

Friday Flowers (one day late)

These flowers made their way to my house this week, and I couldn't be more excited about it. I love Fall!

Duck Boots

A.

Please choose... because I always make you pick my favorite. Oh, and last time I bought these.
Do you have weather boots? I would totally rock these at an oyster roast or a tailgate. I love them!

Mac & Murphy

I have been hearing about Mac & Murphy for while. For whatever reason I rarely get over to this side of town. This is the sweetest paper store! I wanted to buy a little of everything.

I couldn't get enough of the cheeky cards on the wall.

This card is very Charleston appropriate.

My mom would go nuts for the reversible wrapping paper hanging on the wall.

I left with visions of Christmas cards in my head. I've never participated in this tradition but I think it's time to start.

I did indulge in a few Susy Jack office supplies. Bright, cheery calendars and to do list's make for a productive work environment. All in all the store is very cute and has some impressive products. You should definitely check it out!

Gourmet Doughnuts

 Pumpkin Spice Donuts

Mexican Chocolate Donuts

Krispy Kreme, It feels like I am cheating on you. Is it possible to love another Southern donughnut shop? Twice this week I've indulged in Glazed Gourmet's fancy doughnuts. Bites of pumpkin spice, sour dough, Mexican chocolate and regular glazed. Yum! I was lucky enough to be able to try one Wednesday morning when they first opened their doors. These tasty treats are addicting... I headed back for more on Friday to get some for a friend's birthday.

Pumpkin was the group favorite. It doesn't taste too pumpkiny (or manufactured). Mixed reviews with Mexican chocolate. Some people don't love the spicy but I enjoyed it. Between my popsicles last weekend and these doughtnuts I am sensing a trend with the Mexican chocolate. M loved the regular glazed because they are super soft.
I can't wait to try the raspberry, pistachio and maple bacon. Fancy!

A handbag the color of oysters...

Grey is clearly my new favorite color. This shade reminds me of oysters. I could use a good ole country oyster roast right now! If I had to choose one of these pretty handbags I would pick the one on top... it just looks a little more polished. Usually my favorite fall color is mustard yellow. Do you have a go to color this season?

Healthy Tailgate

Unfortunately M has some new dietary restrictions that have us looking for tasty low fat food. I found these baked Buffalo Chicken Rolls on a blog about healthy eating. Andie writes over at Can you stay for dinner? which chronicles a very inspiring journey of a food writer who lost 135 lbs and has maintained her weight. She has so many great recipes.
Mmm... Slow Cooked Sweet Potato Chili. Do you have a favorite healthy recipe?

Almost scarf weather!

I love these! I was not taught how to wear scarves growing up. We pretty much wore flip flops with jackets when it was cold out. I am catching up quick though. I love the scarf in the top left box. Hope your weekend was restful!

Fall Fun

I went to the farmers market today and had the best time. I have been cooped up and it was nice to get out. I got together with a friend this morning and we started the day with painting our nails. I love fall nail polish! It makes me feel so girly. I was able to wear my new boots. Thank you for your votes a couple weeks ago. I finally decided on the Frye Melissa boots.

The weather was a little warmer than expected so when we came across King of Pops gourmet popsicles, we had to indulge. I've heard about these guys for months and finally got to try them. Delicious! They use social media to broadcast their locations. I tried the mexican chocolate and my friend got key lime pie. They were so good we tried for a second helping later, but they had already moved to their next location.

We watched the Gamecocks beat Kentucky 54-3! The score reminds me of high school football. I am watching more football with M tonight. All in all it has been a great day. The weekends mean a lot lately. I am so grateful for a little rest!

Greige

I love this neutral shade! I need to get a fall nail polish soon. I gave myself a pedicure yesterday and I really felt like I was doing something good for myself. Sometimes little indulgences like fancy nail polish make you feel good inside and out.
