C'mere and Give Me Some Sugar

Y'all are sweet as pie. C'mere and give me some sugar. These are a few things my sweet grandmomma says all the time. My grandmother can bless your heart in the most sincere way. Completely different than the way folks are saying it nowadays. The minute you tell her something unfortunate, she's blessing your heart. Like a little songbird, she's going around making a melody with her southern sayings. When we were little she'd start singing "A Bushel and a Peck" or "Hush, Little Baby" as soon as she could convince us it was bedtime.

I intended to write about cards, but these sayings are bringing up memories of visits to my grandparents house. It makes me want to whip up some creamed corn and butter beans. Or just make a giant glass of sweet tea. As for the cards, my granddaddy will be receiving the card with the jam jar on his next birthday. He's been putting up peaches and pears for as far back as we can remember. 

Belle and Union

Belle and Union is one of my favorite stationary companies. I featured them here last year, but they're still cranking out amazing pieces. The folks behind Belle and Union have a story that will make you want to grab your valentine. He's a soldier, and she's an artist. He's a yankee boy, and she's a Southern Belle. Together they make gorgeous cards in Texas.

The South Print - HardInk Calligraphy

I love this print by HardInk Calligraphy. I'm really starting to think I should make a gallery wall with my favorite southern prints. These pieces are way too pretty to send off and never see again. It'd make for an inspiring office wall, and day-dreaming of my sweet grandparents would be pretty awesome too.

Vintage Snail Mail

Check out the vintage postcards I came across in downtown Savannah. If you've never been to The Paris Market and Brocante on Broughton Street, put it on your list the next time you're in town. The word vintage is thrown around a lot these days, but these postcards are the real deal. Some of them are filled with messages from the early 1900's, others are blank and are ready for sending.

I picked up a blank one and sent it to a good friend. I'm not sure why, but it just felt right to send it from this rural post office in Adams Run, SC. This sweet little post office has been in operation since August 15, 1893. I can only imagine all the letters that have passed through here. 

A Proper Recipe Box

I came across these recipe boxes while shopping around at the Charleston paper company, mac & murphy. These pieces, by Rifle Paper Company, are handmade from locally salvaged hardwood. 

A proper recipe box is just one thing I think a lady should own. In my opinion there are a few items that separate the girls from the ladies: a collection of clutch purses, fancy salt and pepper shakers, a dainty monogrammed handkerchief, a vintage brooch and a proper recipe box.

What good is a fancy recipe box without fancy recipe cards to go with them? Luckily, Rifle Paper Company has plenty of cards to choose from. My favorite ones are the 4x6 Lemon Recipe Cards.

Art and Soul

Check out these funky vintage-inspired posters by the Anderson Design Group. There's an entire collection dedicated to the art and soul of America. It's funny how each of these posters remind me of a friend. I really love the Atlanta print, that Georgia peach is just so iconic.

As much as I have tried to resist over monogramming my possessions, one of my most favorite wedding gifts was our monogrammed stationery. Banks Designs. Whether you have a two, three, or four letter monogram you can choose the style lettering you prefer and work directly with an artist to design exactly what you want. Once your monogram is set, you can have letterpress plate or rubber stamp created that can be used on stationery, note cards, packages and more. The middle design below is literally calling my name!

Belle and Union

Belle and Union is a stationery company formed in Savannah, Georgia by Josh and Meg Sutton. She's a Southern Belle and he's Yankee boy. The name fits, right? Their letterpress gift cards incorporate Southern sayings and American wit. My favorites are obviously the ones with the sugar and the oysters. When on their website you are encouraged to kick off your boots and stay awhile. Gift cards aren't their only gig... you will also find tea towels, recipe cards and wrapping paper. I can't stop thinking about having a few of these framed to hang in my kitchen.
